FRANKFURT
On the 28th of March I flew to Germany with Dr Owain Pedgley from Loughborough University to meet with various major makers to discuss the licensing of the polymer material for making guitars. I'm delighted to announce that the trip went VERY well, and we already have two major guitar makers in the frame, one is still in the discussion stage and the other is almost 100% committed to moving this exciting project forward.
My roll in the whole enterprise as a consultant/ambassador for the University is proving to be very effective (so they tell me). I believe my endorsement of the whole project somehow gives it that much credibility. The way things stand at the moment is that we are awaiting Rob Armstrong to complete the first of five prototypes. Once the first is complete then my job will be to produce an album to demonstrate how effective the material can be in the manufacture of acoustic, and at a later date electric instruments. For confidentially sake I can't really reveal the major companies that we are in dialogue with, but what I can say is that potentially it's quite exciting. I think we all know that at this point in time a fine instrument made from the best woods can't really be eclipsed sound wise, but the hope is to produce a really affordable instrument with a unique sound.
For those of you who remember my early days playing Ovation guitars, and at one stage I was the proud owner of an Adamus carbon graphite guitar. This instrument didn't really have the sonic qualities of wood but did in it's own way have a unique and distinct sound, making the whole process of producing a guitar out of material other than wood very valid and worthwhile.
Whilst I was there I bumped into a few old friends like John Goldie, Simon Dinnigan, Woody Mann, Bernie Marsden. Tristan Seume, and my friends at Fishman pickups Larry Fishman, Rick Nelson as well as new friends on the Martin guitar stand Chris Martin, Jack Stoltzen and many more. I also was offered a very attractive string endorsement deal with a major manufacturer, which I may accept!
GLASTONBURY.
I dunno, because of SO many things happening at the moment, it didn't occur to me that the launch of Glastonbury Radio would be a 'live' affair. I thought for some reason that it was going to be recorded for broadcast at a later date. It was only after the event that I was informed that it was going out 'live' to the world! Good job I didn't know otherwise I would have been even more nervous than I was! The whole thing I believe went well, apart from my giant PA system being too loud for the first few tunes (75 watts a channel). During the interval a very charming lady, who incidentally was the one who requested I turn it down because the volume wasn't doing me justice, requested an all acoustic piece. Me being ever the obliging type attempted The Lord's Seat, which for my money didn't really work and gave the sound guy a nightmare of a job with the increasing drop in volume! All in all it went well, and Glastonbury is well... Glastonbury and full of people that look like me, so I didn't feel, at all out of place. When I arrived there was a kind of Mind and Spirit exhibition on full of healing crystals and fortune tellers, well just the one actually. A charming lady who offered me the next time I'm in the area a free reading...Great fun. THANKYOU Glastonbury and all the folks associated with the event. My dear pals Dave and Val kindly sold my Merch for me, so that was a tremendous help.Thankyou Both.
DOUBLE VISION.
I'm delighted to report that the recording that Ray Burley and I did in January of this year in a freezing cold church in Lincolnshire as now been mixed and sounds WONDERFUL. This is great relief to us, and we firmly believe that our debut DVD for Voiceprint will be something special. The DVD contains twelve tracks recorded in the church, an interview section and live footage taken from our Sittingbourne concert last year. Harold Houldershaw is delighted with it all and is determined to make this DVD a work of art!
GILTRAP ON GUITAR.
Last week on my birthday I was once again with Harold Houldershaw to do some more filming. This filming which will take the form of a VERY lengthy interview with that superb broadcaster from Merseyside John Kirkham, and me presenting the footage from my 1990 tuitional video GILTRAP ON GUITAR. It's quite frightening and a wee bit depressing to wonder where all that time has gone because it only seems like a few years ago that I was filming it at Birmingham University as part of a series of tuitional videos made by my then film company Starnite of which I was a director. During it's brief lifetime Starnite produced videos by Steve Howe, Martin Taylor, Big Jim Sullivan, Phil Hilbourn, Roy Wood and Rod Argent. We hope to get this revisited bit of GG out in the market place before the end of the year.
RAYMOND BURLEY.
I'm thrilled to report that Ray Burley has finally finished his album The Long Road Home. This is the album that Ray has been working on for sometime and eighteen of my pieces and his personal favourites have now been committed to tape or digital format. For a composer this is a great accolade, and I'm deeply touched by the gesture. Maestro Burley has brought something new and heartfelt to these tubes of mine, and I can't wait to see the finished thing in CD form in a few months time. At this point in time it is scheduled for release on the German label HYPERTENSION. Look out for that one all you lovers of virtuoso classical guitar, it really doesn't come any better than this, because as you know, Ray is a VERY special musician.
NEW LIVE ALBUM
On the 27th of January I appeared at the Dorchester Arts Centre. The concert was recorded, and to cut a long story short this concert is being released on the brand new Panacy record label as a double CD offering. This will be a completely unedited warts and all package, and will be in the true sense of the word my first ever untouched live album complete with fluffs, jokes, coughs, etc., etc. The album is called GORDON GILTRAP, AS IT HAPPENS. It will contain loads of live photos courtesy of Sue Holton, extensive sleeve notes, and stunning new artwork by our friend and artist Jan Leytham. Everything is in place, and we just await final artwork from Jan and away we go. The label is the brain child of Graham Hazelwood, gentleman and writer. My album will launch the label, and many exciting releases are planned including ANOTHER TIME ANOTHER PLACE an album by that fine Harpsichord player and pianist Mr Richard Leigh Harris. This will be a collection of GG compositions arranged for piano and Harpsichord and played in Richard's unique style. There are also plans afoot for several releases by many of this countries finest young virtuoso guitarists. Watch this space.
TROUBADOUR BOOK.
My book of pieces from the Troubadour is nearing completion, and will be published by my friend classical guitarist extraordinaire Steve Marsh on his label. Steve has already published the Double Vision duets book, and plans to publish on his Lathkill label the eighteen transcription that Ray Burley did for the Long Road Home CD. Once again we hope to get this book out there before the end of the year. We shall be launching the Troubadour book in Birmingham on Thursday the 12th of July at one of this countries largest music stores Professional Music Technology - PMT for short. Details will be appearing on the website soon.

What can I say, it's a cracker, and now that I have found my way around it all it really is a bit special, and a big THANKYOU must go to Sue Holton for creating such a wonder. I can't imagine what creative ideas Sue already has for this site, but you can bet your bottom dollar it's going to be VERY interesting. Please do come and visit. HARMONY 12 STRING.
My Harmony 12 string didn't meet it's reserve on E-Bay and for that I'm quite pleased. I bought this beast when I was a young fresh faced mod, and used it on and off for several years but felt that maybe it should go to a good home. It wasn't meant to be!
NEW MARTIN M3M GUITAR.
I am now the proud owner of a very special Martin guitar. It's called an M3M and was designed in conjunction with Sir George Martin. I have owned many Martin guitars in the past but believe me this one is VERY special. What a luck bunny I am to be the proud owner of some of the finest guitars in the world made by the finest makers. Rob Armstrong. Dave Hodson who sadly passed away recently. Roger Williams Roger Bucknall and now the Martin. God bless em all!

Haverhill Town Hall, now Haverhill Arts Centre, was built in 1883 as a gift to the town. In the early 1990s, the local council converted the building into an arts centre designed to present a range of live entertainment. Rock star Rick Wakeman and south Norfolk vicar Rev Trevor Riess have teamed up again to arrange a festival of music, acting and comedy.
The second Four Churches Festival will take place between 7th and 12th May, with performances held at the four ancient village churches of Scole, Brockdish, Thorpe Abbots and Billingford. plus exhibitions and workshops at Billingford and Thorpe Abbots.
Over the course of the week long Festival, the star-studded line-up includes performances by comedian Don Maclean, Ian Lavender, Richard Digance, Gordon Giltrap, Paul Field, Nicholas Parsons, juggler Steve Rawlings and magician John Lenahan who was the first person in 85 years to be expelled from the Magic Circle !
Rick Wakeman said: Im delighted to be part of the 4 Churches Festival again and am really enjoying working with Trevor and the rest of organising team. Performing in these ancient churches is a real pleasure and the audience benefits from the excellent acoustics and the unique atmosphere that these lovely buildings create." As well as the main performers, Rick Wakeman will perform a short set every night.
Gordon is thrilled to be performing as part of the Festival on 8th May and is looking forward to once again playing some "duets" with Rick Wakeman, who last joined him on stage at Birmingham's Symphony Hall in 2005.

Rock star Rick Wakeman and south Norfolk vicar Rev Trevor Riess have teamed up again to arrange a festival of music, acting and comedy.
The second Four Churches Festival will take place between 7th and 12th May, with performances held at the four ancient village churches of Scole, Brockdish, Thorpe Abbots and Billingford. plus exhibitions and workshops at Billingford and Thorpe Abbots.
Over the course of the week long Festival, the star-studded line-up includes performances by comedian Don Maclean, Ian Lavender, Richard Digance, Gordon Giltrap, Paul Field, Nicholas Parsons, juggler Steve Rawlings and magician John Lenahan who was the first person in 85 years to be expelled from the Magic Circle !
Rick Wakeman said: Im delighted to be part of the 4 Churches Festival again and am really enjoying working with Trevor and the rest of organising team. Performing in these ancient churches is a real pleasure and the audience benefits from the excellent acoustics and the unique atmosphere that these lovely buildings create." As well as the main performers, Rick Wakeman will perform a short set every night.
Gordon is thrilled to be performing as part of the Festival on 8th May and is looking forward to once again playing some "duets" with Rick Wakeman, who last joined him on stage at Birmingham's Symphony Hall in 2005.

Opened in October 2006, The Lights, a professional arts and entertainment venue is sited alongside the River Anton in the centre of Andover, Hampshire.
The Lights features a 242 seat fully raked auditorium, a large Arena Hall with outside canopied decking area, a suite of business rooms, a dance studio and function rooms, all complemented by a stylish cafe area and wine bar.
