I am delighted to be playing with my good friend and brilliant guitarist Nick Hooper.

NICK HOOPER

Although Nick Hooper is better known as a film-music composer, he started his musical career as a guitarist, studying at The Royal College of Music, and receiving tuition from John Williams and others.

In the late 70s he toured widely under the auspices of Yehudi Menuhin’s Live Music Now, and also The British Council. In the 1980s Nick released a folk album Turning Tables with Chris Leslie, and a solo album of music by J S Bach which was critically acclaimed, comparing his playing to that of John Williams and Andres Segovia.

Decades later, after a successful film music career, scoring two Harry potter films and winning many awards, Nick has returned to his first love – the guitar. He joined forces with his wife Judith to form the duo Henderson:Hooper, started a folk series which has now become ‘Pop-up Folk’, and helped form the Dellywellyboot Band. A couple of years ago Nick recorded an album of mainly Irish music Six Strings, and it was this that caused him to meet Gordon Giltrap: Gordon generously helped him to get his new Fylde guitar – a copy of Gordon’s.

Of Six Strings: ‘It’s a complete joy. It’s going to be one of those albums that I play a lot, because it’s got that kind of calm spaciousness about it too, which is absolutely brilliant. Yeah, love it!’ Chris Leslie

As a Church of England vicar, Martin Green is responsible for 2 Warwickshire churches. In 2008, tragedy struck when, on Palm Sunday, one of his churches (St Nicholas') was broken into and burnt down. Later that year, his other church (St Michael's) was declared an emergency restoration project, when large chunks of stone began falling out of the church tower, threatening closure.

St Michaels church in Bishops Itchington was built in its present form in 1872, but sadly, the stone used has gone way beyond its safe sell-by date. We are currently facing a £250,000 restoration project to prevent the church from closing.

English Heritage have stepped in and offered a substantial grant towards these costs. They have recognised that our church is an integral part of the community as well as being a historical landmark. It is used by the community for all kinds of things that span all ages, from mums and tots to pensioners' lunches, as well as weekly worship.

Do please support us by coming along – it promises to be a very special evening.

Tickets : £10 each available from Martin Green
