Holmfirth Picturedrome - 16th November

Postby David » Sun Nov 17, 2013 9:38 am

As soon as we spotted Gordon was coming to our home town we had to book! Especially as we spend much of the year in Greece these days, and don't get as many opportunities to see the maestro as we used to.

Although we saw Gordon with Rick in Birmingham, this was the first chance to see Oliver.

What an excellent pairing! As Gordon mentions elsewhere, they really are tight now. You could see the effort both put in to make it a powerful duet, playing together, as opposed to playing alongside, each other.

With John Lee's Barclay James Harvest to follow, the set was far too short! However, Gordon and Oliver managed to cram in a sample from both their back catalogues, as well as some stuff from Ravens. A good mix of well-known old favourites and new tunes as well. There were a fair few of us who cheered when Gordon announced a track from Fear of the Dark! (I remember when I asked Gordon if he would do something from that LP a few years back, in Halifax, the reply was, "I don't do anything from that now." We're glad things change!)

We have seen Gordon in a wide range of venues over the years, and, as a local, I feel I should apologise for the squalor, and poor sound, of this venue. Nonetheless, it was a great evening!

Thank you Gordon and Oliver!
sincerely,

Christine & David

Hi Gordon,

Indeed you will see us before Christmas!

Our tickets for Bramall Hall are lying by the keyboard right now!

Now there's a venue! We think the Hall; the proximity to Christmas; the intimate auditorium, always make that a very special evening.

We are really looking forward to seeing you there, and having a mince pie too!
sincerely,

Christine & David

Hi Gordon,

Can we be cheeky and put in an early request for the 12 string Fylde to make a reappearance at Bramall? It has such a fine, orchestral sound, it seems to fit so well with the venue.
sincerely,

Christine & David

I'd like to add my appreciation of this gig. It was great fun and my first live Oliver Wakeman experience. The venue was very good, although you dare not stand still for to long in case your feet stuck so firmly to the floor you couldn't move again... apart from that it had great character and a good acoustic. Hope the final gigs go well, Gordon.
