Gary Moore - RIP

I seem to be seeing posts like this more and more frequently these days - Yet again we pay tribute to the passing of a great musician. I couldn't believe it when I heard earlier of the death of Gary Moore. For me, and am sure many, GM was the last of the towering rock guitar icons - a dynasty started by Clapton, Beck and Hendrix and concluding with Gary Moore and Slash. Most importantly, Gary Moore brought a style of playing to a generation unfamiliar with the blues 'greats' and helped build a pathway for the young guitarists that followed in his footsteps.

I saw Gary in his time with Thin Lizzy, a performance I will never forget and would happily compare with the great performances I witnessed by both Jimmy Page and Rory Gallagher - sadly I never got to see him in more recent years, but was always impressed when I watched him on TV. Sadly we have lost one of the great British electric guitarists, the like of which we will probably never see again.

RIP Gary Moore

I had the privelege to see Gary Moore playing several times - from his 80's metal phase through to his blues revival period. Never anything less than a fantastic showman and amazing guitar player. He had the rare skill of knowing when to show off (and for how long) and when to pare it back and just play for the tune.

A great loss and he will be sadly missed.

I spoke to him on the phone many years ago inviting him to play on the anniversary recording of HEARTSONG. Sadly he declined and was a bit put out that I had obtained his number , which was fair enough for sure, but I did assure him that it would be kept safe from the outside world.

I heard from many sources that he was a nice man, I'm sure he was and he will of course be greatly missed. A giant of the guitar indeed and FAR to young to leave this world.RIP.
