GERRY RAFFERTY RIP.

Postby GORDON » Wed Jan 05, 2011 10:30 am

So sad to hear the news of the passing of this great talent.

I have had the pleasure of meeting musicians who have worked with him on that classic track Baker Street. The sax player Raf Ravenscroft did a session for me once, and Hugh Burns the guitarist whome I met this year in Ullapool.

Rest in Peace Gerry.

G.

Very sad news indeed. As he has been local to us for a number of years, we were aware of his worsening condition and his long stay in Bournemouth hospital. We were pleased to hear that he spent his final days at home with his loved ones.

I was a long time fan and admirer of GR, my sister kicking me off on that one by haiving "City to City" and "Night Owl" on vinyl. I went on with albums like "Snakes and Ladders" and "North and South", but the magic of those early albums was tangible. That he has entered the halls of the truly "classic" track is testament to him.

Baker Street is my favourite track. Prefer his version to other people doing it.

Even I was listening to the 6 minute version earlier and it turns out it's got a connection with Sherlock Holmes (221b?)
