Sometimes we sound-techs have an important role in helping musos get the very best from the gear they're using...

Hey Mike

This picture prompts me to ask a couple of questions that as a sound engineer you may be able to answer?

When did miming turn into lip synching and is it a modern phenomena?

Cheers

Scott

Mike, that's brilliant!

I recall watching a gig in a very small student venue many moons ago when a support-band duo were trying to start their set but couldn't get the bass to work. The sound guy's assistant was all over the stage checking everything - the bass amp, the DI boxes, the cables, the pedals, the pickup switch on the bass... after about 5 minutes the sound guy strode purposefully down to the stage, reached out towards the bass player's instrument and turned up the volume knob, turned round and trudged back to the desk shaking his head!

True story!

Hi Scott

I will answer this when I have a little more time, but I'll probably shift it across to another thread where the answer to your specific point may be more appropriately placed.

Cheers! Mike

The tales I could tell...! Honesty dictates that I fess-up and say that many of them would be about my many "D'oh" moments as a sound-tech - the high-spot being on-stage, in front of a gathering audience, and trying the old "1-2-1-2" into a mic-line that didn't have a mic attached!

It happens to me all the time as dear Sue so kindly reminded me about not plugging the guitar in....which does help on occasion!

A fun posting indeed!

Be Well all.

Hi Scott!

I've had a go at answering your question in a new topic in "More Music".

Cheers. Mike
