Rob Armstrong

Postby Richard716 » Sun Sep 11, 2011 1:00 am

Hi Gordon,

I am travelling up and down from Newcastle to Newton Abbot on a regular basis and miss playing so started thinking about a guitar that I could take with me. I then stumbled on this great footage.

Interested to know if its standard tuning and how Rob Armstrong is doing, could not see a website for him or any info on the guitar he made for you?

Cheers, Richard

Richard, there are contact details here:

As I recall (but Gordon will correct) the Armstrong Baby is tuned up something like a fifth from a normal guitar - A to high A - which, of course it retains normal fingerings for chord shapes, kinda like having a capo on teh 5th fret.

As an aside, I understand that the legend of the birth of the Baby Guitar is that a number of years ago Rob
Armstrong accidentally over-ordered on mandolin cases and rather than send them back decided to see if he could make a guitar to fit them. The result was the Baby - the first of which, I think, went to Gordon.

Cool story! If it's not true, it ought to be! :D

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for the info. Found a cheap alternative Yamaha Gl-1 Guitarelle, not sure if its any good but may put it on my Christmas list.

Great story by the way :D

Has Mr GG gone into hibernation. I hope all is well with the guitar maestro.

Hi Sue,

Good to hear. Thought it strange as he usually responds so quickly. Laptops and mobiles, everyone should switch them off once in a while!!!!! Even Webmasters :D

Check out:

Good service and knowledge and they specialise in travel guitars. I can recommend the Lestar Ministar.

Be well
