Classical guitar purchase

Don't know if there are many classical guitarists on the forum, but.... Could anyone recommend a good make/model of classical guitar, on a budget of around £500 - £1000? I've heard Raimundos are good, but suffer from a high action (an irritation with my old Yamaha). Any advice gratefully received, thanks!

Have a look at Ray Burley's site and contact the man. If anybody knows it is our Ray.

Best.

Hi Mike,

I am a classical guitarist and have two instruments, one Raimundo (£279) which was my first classical guitar and didn't suffer from a high action. Raimundo make guitars in the price range you are looking at. My other instrument is an Alhambra Model 9 (£1200 when bought but are a bit more now). I would personally recommend that you don't focus on a make/model so much as go to a good shop that specialises in the instruments and spend an hour or two playing though several in your price range. Chop and change, going back and forwards between them and you will quickly eliminate some and shortlist others either for tone, playability or both. As to the action, you can always take the guitar to a luthier (get a recommendation) to get the action lowered a touch if you find it is too high. Just play what is out there and let the guitar find you.

Thanks Gordon and Andrew for the advice. I'll try Ray Burley, although he doesn't seem to have a discussion forum like this on his website - hope he won't mind me asking!

Hi Mike, I have an Admira 2000FI classical solid Cedar top and Solid rosewood back and sides, has a Fishaman Prefix Pro factory fitted, It has a few knocks on the surface but sounds absolutley brilliant, I don't play this style much if at all any more and I'm looking to move this instrument on now to a good home if your interested.
