My old '73 Fylde!

Postby Andrew Hawkey » Mon Sep 17, 2012 8:32 pm

Hi Gordon,

Haven't been on your site for quite a while, so on a casual visit I was delighted to come across your July 2011 news piece about my dear old 1973 Fylde (No. 2), and how you'd borrowed it back from Roger Bucknell and applied a little more TLC, to good effect ... and that you've used it for recording. That's brilliant news - can you tell me if the recording has yet been released, and if so, on what CD ...? I really need a copy of that, Gordon!

Hope all's well with you. Have recently entered my 8th decade (one has no control over these melancholy events!) and threw a terrific party featuring reunions of the 2 blues bands that I played (mostly keyboards) in here in Wales from 1984 to 2007 ... I'm delighted that the old Fylde is enjoying a new lease of life - it would never have happened if I'd hung onto it.

Best regards to you,

Andrew Hawkey

Hi Andrew.

How great to hear from you. The track that I used it on is yet to be completed, but when it's done you will know about it because I like to list what guitars are used on what tracks.

It is indeed a lovely old beast, and is currently in a friends shop seeking a good home. It needs to be played and I have SO many, but at least I gave it a new lease of life..bless it.

Be Well in your 70th decade sir.

G.

P.S. Do you still have the Renbourne Henderson album?

Thanks Gordon. I'm sure the old thing will find an appreciative new custodian. Yep, still have that very scarce album ... a prized possession. I enjoyed reading your admirably candid interview in R2 recently, in which you were somewhat dismissive of your earlier singer-songwriter output: I actually rather like that old Testament of Time album of yours! I'll wager one of the specialist CD reissue outfits will be after releasing it before long! Vinyl hasn't dried up, it's just got more expensive, but I still collect odd and out-of-the-way stuff when I stumble across it, to add to my already groaning shelves. And the CDs just keep stacking up ... I'm incurable!

I look forward hugely to hearing my old (pre-) Fylde in recorded guise in due course ... do let me know as & when.

Yikes, my 70th decade!! Not quite ... now that really would be something (but I live in hopes!). Actually, age is only a trick of mathematics - I reckon the secret is to just keep on working (and playing, if that's your thing - I'm currently in the studio working on an eccentric singer-songwriter trio project: guitar, keyboards (me) & mandolin - no bass or percussion! Wilfully perverse!) ... dear old Michael Chapman's quite a bit older than me (us!) and he's seemingly busier and more high-profile than he's ever been, which is an example to us all. So ... Keep on keeping on.

All the v. best,
Andrew

Sorry Andrew, I mean't your 8th decade....silly me.

Glad your still as busy as ever sir. Thanks for the kind words re early GG vocal efforts. I just want to vomit when I hear that early stuff, but I guess that's my privilege!

Yep, good old Mike...bless him.

Be Well.

G.
