It was COLD - the sort of cold that freezes dogs to lamp-posts and causes copper and zinc alloyed simians to wear worried expressions. At St Bartholomew's church the cold caused some technical problems at the concert given by Double Vision - Gordon Giltrap and Ray Burley - not the least of which was getting some warmth into talented fingers.
Although the heating was working well the conditions were almost overwhelming, and the audience (congregation?) of some 200 souls wore their scarves and overcoats : and our musical heros played on regardless.
These two masters of their craft entertained in the manner they do so well. The sounds coming from their respective guitars - Gordon on steel strings, Ray on nylon - complemented each other magnificently, with Mr.Burley's instrument having an almost harp like quality at times.
It was a rare treat to hear them play some less often heard of Gordon's compositions - among them Daisy Chain, The Picnic, The Racer, Fast Approaching, Kaz, and that delightful to hear - but a devil to play - Tailor Bird [from The Peacock Party].
Lord Burley's two solo classical pieces {sorry forgot to note the titles and composers} provided a lovely contrast.
So despite the uncomfortable conditions those gathered were happy and contented with the entertainment, and - this being Ray's local church - the vicar especially thanked The Meastro for his organisational efforts. Putting something back into his community as it was so succinctly put.
Get along to see Gordon and Ray play together if you possibly can - the music is delightful, and the chemistry between these two friends promotes a very special atmosphere distinct from a solo Giltrap gig.
Keith
PS The concert was filmed by local internet television outfit, Witney TV. so if you log on to their site you may be able to enjoy some of this gig yourself. K

Great review, as ever, Keith and the thanks of Gordon, Ray and myself for your (and Fiona's!) help in derigging and loading vehicles. You're a prince among men!
