Re: Message to Old Bones

Just passing, hope you don't mind me joining the conversation... Ornamentation is an important part of bringing any piece of music to life whether it be guitar, vocal or any other instrument. However it can be overused, which then kills the piece in my opinion. Careful and tasteful use of twi...

Re: GG Vinyl

At the risk of going slightly off topic and down a very deep rabbit hole...I used to live fairly and squarely in the "vinyl sounds better than CD" camp. These days I think the difference is less important than the quality of the sound system that the music is played on. Given much music is...

Sounds a lovely piece indeed. May I add a belated birthday wish from me also. :D

Re: The Lords Seat on lute

It is a lovely rendition and that piece was just perfect! I've often wondered how it would sound on the lute. I've played it on 6- and 12-string also a classical (from Classic Giltrap with a more conventional tuning) but this is the best sound I think I've heard.

Re: Nail Care

I did read an article in a newspaper, again a few weeks ago, that said when filing the fingernails only file in one direction (no, not that One Direction), rather than the typical 'sawing' action most of us probably use. The reason being that the latter action breaks the nail instead of smoothing i...

Re: Guitars (and basses and other stuff) wot I have owned...

The first guitar I had was inherited/borrowed from my brother and was a Martin Colletti. I never really got to grips with it but while at university a friend had a Fender Mustang which I loved so I got my first "real" guitar in 1987 which was a Japanese Strat. The centre pickup had been re...

The Heron Theatre, Beetham, Cumbria 12th and 13th September

Following last year's successful concert at The Heron, Gordon returned for two sell-out nights at this 81 seat theatre, the fabric of which is an old school dating back to 1847. The audiences of both seasoned fans and many who hadn't seen Gordon perform before ranged from locals to those coming from...

Re: Nail Care

Anyway... I'm sure we're not all from the Midlands  Ermmm...well.... (I'm not there now but am a land lubber from Warwickshire originally) I play nylon, steel string acoustic and electric and play them all with nails rather than picks. I don't generally do anything to my nails other that shape...

Re: Travis and Fripp

Great post, Rog! This showed some Frippertronics the like of which I've not heard for quite some time...I have a long listening association with Fripp from his King Crimson days, Projekts and a few solo albums and he just takes me to another place entirely. I tried learning Moto Perpetuo from Fractu...

Re: Oldbones

I'll echo that. I am a keen player but have struggled to "get" the time to practice in recent months (years) but that's because other things have proven to be more improtant or of a higher priority. I don't feel guilty about it as I know I will get back to it. Plus, when I do pick up an in...

Re: Holmfirth Picturedrome - 16th November

I'd like to add my appreciation of this gig. It was great fun and my first live Oliver Wakeman experience. The venue was very good, although you dare not stand still for to long in case your feet stuck so firmly to the floor you couldn't move again... apart from that it had great character an...

Re: China!

Ah so. Good to see that Em's Tune features on that page. Jean Michel Jarre broke into China with a double album imaginatively named The Concerts in China. Maybe some new compositions can be inspired. "China" - Gordon Giltrap On Shanghai Sands Down the Yellow River Maddie Goes East The Empe...

Re: God Save The Queen

Glad to hear the travel guitar is proving to be an excellent source of therapy. As the shoulder improves perhaps you could extend your performance to standing on the roof and windmilling your arms (a la Pete Townshend) whilst wearing a Brian May curly wig. Mind you, if you did that then you wouldn't...
