Re: GUITAR FAIR(s)

your postings have given the anoraks here a good old shot in the arm ... I for one appreciate your input to these pages I often think I tend to whitter on too much, but if at least something of what I post is useful to someone, then that's all I hope for. even though you disapprove of my Live at Hu...

Re: VE2000GG-12 vs VE8000PB-12 ... any thoughts?

I have found a YouTube demo by Paul Brett .... interestingly, he has the guitar tuned down a full tone. Yes - I think I listed the URLs for both Paul Brett's demo of the GG12 and his own PB12. I commented that it was interesting to bounce between them. To my ears, the GG12 has a sound more akin to ...

GUITAR FAIR(s)

It occurred to me that as guitar fairs are becoming more common these days, it might be useful to have a thread for members to post any info about events, dates and venues in their area. To kick things off - The Yorkshire Dales Acoustic Fair (Mojo) Sunday 23rd March 2014 Skipton Town Hall High St Sk...

Re: Vintage VE2000GG 12 string - my experience

To save posting two separate responses, I'll cover both Gordon's comments and Brad's in one go - I think the wonderful Sue Holton has supplied you with a YOUTUBE link to me playing the GG 12 string .Worth a look maybe? More than 'maybe' Gordon. For anyone else following this thread who missed Sue's...

VE2000GG-12 vs VE8000PB-12 ... any thoughts?

Has anyone in this forum been in a position to try and to directly compare the VE2000GG-12 Vintage Gordon Giltrap 12-String Signature Guitar and the only other real 'contender' in the ranks of affordable mini twelve strings - the VE8000PB-12 Vintage Paul Brett Signature 12-String Guitar ? If so, wha...

Re: Vintage VE2000GG 12 string - my experience

I finally made the leap and ordered a new VE2000GG 12 string guitar, which arrived yesterday afternoon. Brad - I forgot to ask: Could you do me a small favour and measure the width across the strings at the nut and the saddle (not just the width of the complete nut or saddle). I spent a happy few h...

Andy Latimer is playing once again

All of us here will have our own private list of guitar heroes who either first awakened that tingle in our blood and twitching in our fingers, or who, in later life, enthralled us as we listened spellbound to their music which left us awestruck and emotional. The name Andy Latimer may not mean much...

Re: Where to find a VE2000GG-12?

A word of warning...If you do decide to go for my 12 string..PLEASE string it with light gauge strings if tuning to concert pitch, otherwise you will experience an issue with the hefty pull on the neck and general strain on the belly of the guitar.Dont get me wrong, the guitar sounds wonderful, but ...

Re: JHS/Vintage

Just chipping-in with high praise for the Vintage range of Les Paul style guitars. Everyone knows of the V100 'Lemon Drop' which, as far as I know, is one of only two commercially produced guitars which is pre-wired for that cross-phase effect that featured in so many early Peter Green recordings. T...

Re: Les Pauls

Lots of great guitarists listed so far. It looks as if Roger USA and I share similar tastes. I'd certainly go along with Steve Hackett, Peter Green and Snowy White as being amongst my personal favourites. When it comes to guitarists, I always prefer those who are able to develop strong melodic lines...

Re: Help on choosing my next acoustic

Matt You listed a Faith guitar in your first post. I can confirm that they a wonderful instruments. I once had a Faith FJCE which was excellent with a perfect build quality and a very low action. HOWEVER - if I had to recommend just one affordable 6 string built to the same quality and with a great ...

Re: Vintage VE2000GG 12 string - my experience

there are other retailers offering a much lower price, such as Reidy's at £359 and DJM Music at £369. Having mentioned them, let's see if their prices change. As far as I recall, £529 was pretty well the original asking price for the GG and although a few dealers still list that, there are a great ...

Re: Vintage VE2000GG 12 string - my experience

Your comments on the condition of display at Ivor Mairants is of concern Ye Gods!!!! That wouldn't now be my only concern. I was just browsing for some reviews of Gordon's signature 12 string and saw Ivor Mairants advertising it at £529 Reidys price is £339 DJM price is £30 more - but still way off...

Re: The Giltrap Prog Trilogy

To those of you who have not heard them, I can't recommend these three albums enough. I was stunned and shocked the other week to see that they were no longer available. If you've heard them you know that they're a must in any Giltrapophile's collection. Absolutely right - it was this 'Visionary' t...

Re: GG Vinyl

Intriguing, isn't it? LP's were dead for so long once CD's arrived but now vinyl is back with a vengeance! This thread sent me to my LP rack to confirm that I still have the 'Visionary' trilogy alongside 'Midnight clear' and 'Peacock'. That's when I noticed that Gordon is neatly in the middle of a s...
