Re: Taylor 562ce 12 string ... Is there such a thing as a civilised 12 string?
Old ones, Wow!!!! That is about the only way I can start this response. You have certainly pushed the boat out with this one, though at our age waiting around until such time as you can totally justify such an expense does seem to be not quite so critical. I have a Taylor baritone that I am very ple...

Re: Wyres Strings
Martie, You are most welcome. I couldn't help thinking of what I would consider my 'ultimate ideal strings' would be. So, here goes (tongue most definitely in cheek): 1. Very easy to hold down at all places on the playable frets (up to 14?), without buzzing or other extraneous sounds. 2. Last for at...

Re: Culling old vinyls can be an emotional experience
Having had my day - a few hours anyway - of indolence, I have been busy for the past few days so unable to come back in on this, until now. Firstly, I am really enthused by 'The Last of England', which I bought on CD. I can see that should you be 'purist' about Gordon's work then maybe, just maybe, ...

Re: Wyres Strings
Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum, though others will join to that probably. I can't answer the issue you specifically raise though do share the same problem of arthritis to my 'fretting hand' - left in my case. Like you holding strings has gradually become more difficult as the years ...

Re: Culling old vinyls can be an emotional experience
Oldbones, Whilst practising a day of indolence I happened upon the website and your posting. My first reaction was to simply read, contain my thoughts and enjoy the indolent lifestyle to which I would like to be accustomed. Ah well! I couldn't resist making a contribution (non financial, of course) ...

Re: I'd never heard of Massimo Varini - have you?
Good to see you are 'back in the swing' with recent contributions. The name 'Massimo Varini' does vaguely ring a bell in my fading memory, though have not been able to figure out why. I like the sound of his playing and, like you, the EKO 12 string conjures up many fond memories - my original machin...

Re: Ukulele, Guitalele, Banjolele and suchlike
Old ones, Tongue was definitely in cheek with my comments on Tiny Tim - don't think I could manage the falsettos these days! I was busy yesterday with my partners in crime working on the songs for our annual 'music festival' (we only invite around 25 people each year) so thoughts of ukuleles were fa...

Re: Ukulele, Guitalele, Banjolele and suchlike
Thanks for the detailed information. One of my nieces started learning ukulele a few years ago and got my interest. I can't remember the tuning but was able to pick it up and play some rudimentary chords and tunes. The' high' 4th string confused me a little though, as you say, gives the uke its dist...

Old bones,
I saw your post earlier today, just as I was on my way out. I am only just in but would rather take this offline and will PM you tomorrow.
In the meantime my heartfelt sympathies to you as I know just how difficult a time this will have been.

Re: Vintage VE2000GG 12 string - my experience
Where has the time gone? Time to update this posting. It is coming up for 3 years since I bought this guitar, which seems impossible that so much time has passed and events happened - frightening! The guitar is still in very good health, getting played regularly, though I haven't changed the strings...

The Last of England - CD
I received my copy from Amazon on Friday, 20th January 2017 and ... have listened to 3 times all the way through. Superb and very evocative, every track. As is usual for me, I have found 2 of the tracks that particularly resonate (no pun intended) with me: 1. The Last of England - The images it evok...

Re: Thalia Capos
Wow, Andrew, they are expensive compared to my Shubb and Kyser capos! However, cost isn't always the deciding factor over usability and durability. Perhaps after you have been using the Thalia for a while you could let us (all of us) have an updated opinion on the factors I mention above. I see from...

Rick Parfitt
In the words of Queen 'another one bites the dust'. Lest anyone thinks that flippant or disrespectful, it is far from that and, probably in line with what Rick Parfitt would have said, and sad to hear the news of his death. I am not a fan of Status Quo, though having seen them a few years ago, in co...

Re: Lightest strings for 1972 Yamaha FG100
I have found the Elixir custom light strings to be very pliable without losing much, if any, of the lower end tone. Over recent years I have used Elixirs on 3 of my guitars ranging from the custom light on my Yamaha CPX700 (this is about 9 years old), light on my Martin and medium on my travel guita...

Guitar Star - Second series
There were a number of us who watched the first series - see the thread lower down in this forum for comments/exchanges on that. The second series begins this Tuesday, 14th June 2016, on Sky Arts channel at 20:00. I have just set the Sky Box to record the series as there are other distractions for t...
