Re: What steel string guitars to consider?

If you are still interested in the possibility of a Fylde instrument, it might be worth your while giving Roger Bucknall a call on 01768 891515 and arranging to visit his workshop in Penrith, if you can get there. A visit to Penrith was the start of my buying one of Roger's 'Personal Selection' ins...

Re: Messages don't leave Outbox

Ah, Now it all becomes clear. Its useful in a way as the Outbox config acts as a read receipt - once moved to 'Sent' you know the message has been read. Thanks! Hi Aviator, this isn't so much a problem of function as a problem that the way it works is not obvious or well explained to users. While a ...

Messages don't leave Outbox

This isn't a unique problem; I've seen it elsewhere.

I think a batch job sends Outbox messages, perhaps at a predetermined time of the day.

However I have a message that has sat in my Outbox for two days and won't be despatched.

I haven't hit a size limit.

Re: Intonation...

I was looking into the subject of scale lengths recently, as I was briefly interested in getting a Seagull Artist Series, mostly because of its particularly wide neck. But its 24 3/4" scale length concerned me, not least because I do regularly drop my low E four steps to C. I don't have a rattl...

Re: What steel string guitars to consider?

Thought I'd provide an update. I have three months to go before I have to make a decision. Mid-September is the key cut-off, beyond which I couldn't be sure of having a hand-built guitar made in time, or a rarity from abroad delivered. Having played an awful lot of guitars, I've been able to hone my...

Avalon guitars no more?

Although their web site doesn't mention it ( http://www.avalonguitars.com/index.php ) other than the web shop being disabled, Avalon Guitars in Belfast have gone into receivership (see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-18207130 .) Their support forum ( http://www.avalonguitars.com/phpbb/...

Re: Thoughts re Small Amps

Trevor, (snipped) Thanks, but at the moment I'm thinking in terms of a small combo within a certain budget. Must say the Blackstar sounds great on some of the youtube clips I've looked at though :D I have a Blackstar HT-5. Before that I had a Peavey Classic 30, a Vox VT60 (digital modelling amp) an...

Re: struggling with roots part 1

Hope Bramall is on but can't guarantee it. Keep practising Daniell. G. I too am trying to teach myself this. You kindly autographed a copy of the VoicePrint book at Bramhall years ago for me, and so it sat on a bookcase for years and years, with me too scared to try any of the pieces. Finally, whil...

Re: What steel string guitars to consider?

Hi Bob, yes I've considered goign back to Ovation. I got one (though a 12-string) after seeing Al Stewart and Peter White in Leeds, way back in the 1990s. Best theatre-size acoustic gig I've ever seen, and both were playing Ovations. I've recently added the recently-released Yamaha AC3R to my list -...

Re: Acoustic Amplifiers

I'm going through this process too-evaluating small acoustic amps. I'm after something just suitable for a small coffee shop or (quiet) pub. 30 watts seems sufficient - but I've included 60 watt amps in my list. I like to have reverb, don't particularly like chorus, but I do play with delay on occas...

Re: What steel string guitars to consider?

I'd second Gordon on the Fylde - stunning guitars (might be worth saving up a little more for!). Another couple of options I'd advise looking at are... Brook Guitars - built in Devon and some models are in your price range. I've got a Tamar I bought about 10 years ago and it's a lovely guitar. They...

What steel string guitars to consider?

I currently own a steel 6-string made in China. It cost me a hundred euros and has a laminated top and sides (an Encore, imported by John Hornby Skewes). It's a beginners guitar I picked-up in Galway whilst working in Eire. My main electric was built in Warwickshire and it is simply a fantastic guit...

Re: When / where did you first see Gordon play?

This is my first posting, and Sue suggested I replicate an email I'd sent to her on this thread. I first saw Gordon…when, I can't (precisely) remember. I think it was Glastonbury in 1981 and it was the afternoon immediately after my A-level history exam, in fact the last day at school! He was on sta...
