Re: Keith Emerson
I just saw this in the news - it seems like sad circumstances. He was one of my main Prog Rock heroes from the 70s, when Trilogy, Brain Salad Surgery and Works Vol 1 were amongst my favourite albums. Coincidentally I was just playing some ELP to my son Ethan on Thursday to introduce him to some of t...

Re: New to the forum
Hi Mark, Welcome to the forum! I see you live in Leicestershire - I used to live in Kegworth on the north western tip of the county many years ago. At the moment the forum is a little quieter than usual, due in part to Gordon needing to rest and focus on his treatment and recovery. That said there i...

Re: What I did at the weekend !
Hi Sue,
What a fabulous (or should that be "fab"?) experience! A truly memorable day (in the life).
I did listen to the Beatles White Album over the weekend, but that's as close as I got to Abbey Road.
Oh and I watched our Carolina Panthers lose the Super Bowl.
All The Best,
Roger

Re: RIP David Bowie
Very sad and shocking news to wake up to, although it puts Blackstar into perspective. My favourite David Bowie songs would include Space Oddity, Starman, The Man Who Sold the World, Life on Mars, Changes, Rebel Rebel, Heroes, Ashes to Ashes, Fashion...... To someone of my age he was one of the many...

New Album
Hi Gordon, It's great news to hear that there may be a new Gordon Giltrap album in the works! Earlier in the year I was going to ask if there were any plans for a new album, because I was aware of a number of new songs that hadn't appeared on an album before, but when I heard of your illness I reali...

Well done Steve. I don't know what your max bid was, but it kept beating every bid I tried! A very worthy cause.

Re: Charity Auction
I placed the opening bid when Sue posted the link and everything seemed to be going smoothly with just two bids for days. I thought nothing much else would happen until the last day, but when I checked in today bids had started coming in. I have bid a couple more times and been outbid - that's a goo...

Re: The best 70s Giltrap prog tune you've never heard
That's a great piece Trevor and so Gordon, with its touches of Inner Dream and the like. Did Gordon and his band play on it or did Gordon write it? It sounds like a GG band track with lyrics added.
Thanks for posting it!

Re: Gedling - 24 /10 / 2015
Hi Keith, Thank you for another excellent concert review, you capture the occasion perfectly. Gedling will always be a special place for me, because it is the first venue where Ethan saw Gordon play live. In addition to Gordon he also vividly remembers meeting you and Fiona, "from Fiona's Smile...

Re: Dodo's Dream
I agree with Brad that the live versions of The Dodo's Dream all have their own magic as you see and hear the piece being created before your eyes. My favourite recorded version would be on Shining Morn. Whilst it's not Gordon's solo creation I also really enjoy The Dodo's Dream on the 4 Parts Guita...

Re: Guitar Workshop in Buxton
Hi Andrew, Thanks for taking the time to write such a full account of the guitar workshop weekend. It's very interesting and sounds like it was an excellent event, in no doubt an enjoyable setting (I have stayed at the Old Hall in Buxton a few times on Derbyshire trips when I lived in England). Alth...

Re: Announcement Sept 2015
Hi Gordon & Hilary, The absence of your music and wit from the live arena will make the world, temporarily, a less entertaining place. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way and here's hoping for a complete and speedy recovery. Ethan sends his own "Get well soon Gordon!" Thinking o...

Re: Revelation
Hi Piotr, That's a tough call. I tend to go for the first version of something I heard, because that's the one that made the initial impression, which would be the Visionary track. That said I do really like the River Sessions version - and it's longer! Your question did prompt me to revisit The Riv...

Re: Quest - a quick summer poll
Many thanks Roger, You clearly are very well versed in the music of Gordon Giltrap. When you consider the album Troubadour and the albums that were produced in the 70's which, to a mainstream audience, are quite different, what do you think? I ask this because most popular music today has, since th...
