Re: Tom McCauley's Gordon Giltrap Show

Good work Tom! Tunes in a selection are always good to hear, and your selection supports what was said in another thread: Gordon's tunes - both those with a band and solo - are a real treat.

Re: 40th anniversary of the Visionary

I can only second what you have already said, gentlemen :-) I think that if you could see the play in which (among other pieces), "Lucifer's Cage" was thundering in a theatre hall to illustrate the doings of Mordred and if you could hear "Echoing Green" illustrating the love of L...

40th anniversary of the Visionary

The year 1976 saw the release of a record that I regard as my all-time-favourite: Visionary. In 1976, I was 13 and had no idea that such music exists, but thanks to a certain visionary from my country it was to be heard 5 years later in a very special thetrical play called "King Arthur's Knight...

Re: What I did at the weekend !

Hello, I am proud to know people who recorded at the Abbey Road Studios! Sue: Congratulations on such an achievement and on such an exciting weekend. As for my weekend.... (now there goes a reference to an old movie). If you remember the movie "That Man from Rio", and the adventures of Bel...

Re: RIP David Bowie

Very sad news...

I would say "Space Oddity" and "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" would be my favourite songs from David Bowie.

Sleuth

I have heard Sleuth for the first time on the vinyl "Elegy" and now I listen to it frequently on "Time to Reflect" CD. The vigour and speed of this composition is amazing. If I am correct, we can hear fragments of The Tyger and possibly some pieces of another composition (from th...

The ebay name of the lucky winner starts with an "S" - could this be a clue? :-)

Oh yes! Thanks Trevor, I have just put on the reissue Fear of the Dark and the bonus Revelation does sound super fine.
I must add Live at the BBC to my collection, though :-)

Re: Dodo's Dream

Does anyone else here ever feel the urge to push Gordon's music to fresh ears elsewhere? I'm a member of a very large online music forum and I keep purposefully dropping the names of Gordon's albums everywhere in the hope that someone will bite! [/quote] You are certainly not alone in this quest, S...

Wojtek the Soldier Bear

The story that goes back to WW2: Polish soldiers from the 2nd Polish Corps (part of the British 8th Army) adopt an orphaned bear cub, who becomes their great friend... A story close to my heart, as my relatives served in this unit. The monument to commemorate Wojtek was unveiled in Edinburgh on 8 No...

Gordon’s music in the theatre

The first time I heard Gordon’s music was in a theatre in 1981. The title of the play was “Rycerze Króla Artura” “King Arthur’s Knights” and was based on the legends of the Round Table. It was staged by the then famous Wroclaw Pantomime Theatre of Henryk Tomaszewski. The word “pantomime” covers a ve...
