I don't know what the guitarist's equivalent of the thespian's phrase "Break a leg" is - snap a string? Crack a nail?? Whatever it is I'm sure the gig will be a rip roaring success and I wish I was going to be there. It will be something special, I'm sure!

I agree that music is treated more as something rather ambient instead of a target of your focus for forty minutes or however long. I can't remember the last time I actually sat down and listened to an album carefully instead of having it on as background while doing something. Yet as a teenager I u...

...or Ken Bruce, Tracks of My Years. I really enjoyed listening to Gordon’s “Tracks of My Years” on the Ken Bruce Show (Radio 2) last week. Something that he said while he was talking about Bert Jansch’s “Dreams of Love” album really struck a chord (no pun intended). He said: “I would spend hours…lo...

I heard the news yesterday evening on the radio. I am saddened - I never got to see Pink Floyd in concert; but I am so happy to have been able to listen to the fantastic music that they wrote and performed. Wright was a massive contributor to the band's material and has been a significant force in p...

Well, I played Dodo to the point it was working fairly well and managed to lay down a passable version on my laptop using Cubase and recording multi-track. But then the desire to play it in 8 minutes rather than half a day took over and yes I confess: I bought a loop station. That was it - no excuse...

I bought two tickets (me and my good lady wife). Then I bought three more! I'm not suffering from split personalities here, it is that I have friends and family from the Coventry area that I tempted into making the pilgrimage to see GG play in such a unique environment. Well worth the effort, in my ...

Ah, if only money were no object...that is one really funky piece of kit that could give endless fun and creative inspiration. I need a bigger house, a dedicated studio, hmmm... Actually I need to get back into work first to earn some spending power. I did teacher training for a year before deciding...

...Teresa and I have just received our tickets for the Roslin concert in October and we are so looking forward to it. It is such a beautiful venue and being candlelit it should be a really wonderful experience. CatStrand was good but this will be special. By the way, the 'Ikea flatpack' Dodo is comi...

Fair 'nuff - I thought it odd that you had paid a second visit to the shop when your concerts were elsewhere in the country :) !

If you have a computer there are options there in recording Dodo. There is a very good free multitrack software item called 'Audacity'. You can record as many tracks as you like and use cut/copy/paste etc to replicate things you have recorded once, such as the Dodo main riff. I will be exploring the...

Did Gordon play my guitar??? (well, one of them anyway)

I have just returned from two fabulous weeks in Cyprus to a drizzly UK (yeuch). Just before I went I took my trusty Epiphone Les Paul with a rare bird's eye maple sunburst finish into Montana Music in Dumfries for a little TLC and setup. On my return I was amazed to be told not only could he have so...

I still have my trusty turntable, although it is a box in the loft but provided the belt hasn't turned into powder it should work nicely! I hanker after the vinyl days - I think there is more life in a vinyl than a cd recording but I do think that it is only the hard core of hi-fi and music enthusia...

When I wanted to record my classical guitar I read around the various review sites and also a classical guitar forum I am a member of. I ended up buying a Rode NT 1000, a large capsule condenser mic which I got a good deal on from Sound Control in Birmingham. I am very pleased with the sound quality...

I did see a bit of streaming video from the DVD and it sounded really good. I saw it on sale the night of the gig but I didn't have enough cash to buy a copy. Had I taken more I probably would have bought far more than I really should have... I used to play with some friends at my guitar tea...
