Picking up on Russ's helpful comments, if you're going for a self-contained PA-type monitor have a close look at the Studiospares 'Fortissimo' range. These are very highly thought of in the live-sound community and are good value for money. Not only do they come with a volume control, but you get th...

I know this topic has been quiet for about 3 months now, but I thought an update following six months of varied and fairly continuous use of the Zoom H2 might help some who are considering one of these recorders. I still think it's a great machine and I wouldn't go back to minidisc which I used for ...

Great stuff Russ! Of course, I'm not the guitarist - can't play a note. It was Clem who came in on this thread with comments about recording his guitar straight into his desk. As I said in the earlier post - and as acknowledged by Clem - you'll always get MUCH better results when using a condenser m...

Thanks for posting that Clem. Yes; it's a good full-range recording and demonstrates both the guitar and your technique very well. I can certainly hear no mismatch artefacts in the sample you've supplied - even at the fairly modest MP3 sampling rate you've used. I know that you recognise how much mo...

Hi Clem This is interesting that you should get a sound you're pleased with by connecting your guitar direct to your desk. I'm an engineer not a guitarist so am not familiar with your guitar or its EQ. However, I guess this must be some form of active or low-impedance system or the recorded tone wou...

Good to meet you too Sue! As you'll see from the Anoraks' pages I also met Bob Wilson and was persuaded by him to burst into (lengthy) print on the topic of portable PAs for gigging solo and duo acts. I agree about the concert. New guitars and some new material as well as the old favourites. A stunn...

Portable PA Systems
I met Bob Wilson last night after the Fleet Concert (nice one Gordon; an excellent range of material - the 'plastic' and the 12-string sounded great). Anyway, back to the plot... Bob and I got to talking about portable PA systems of the type Gordon uses when he's not using a 'house' PA. Because of w...

Apart from something by GG of course.... it's 'Incahoots' by The Huckleberries - sort of folk, sort of celtic, sort of bluegrass, sort of world music. Check out their music at http://www.thehuckleberries.com

Hi Sue I'm using a Sandisk 4.0GB SDHC Card. Don't know if it's Class 6 or not. I bought it on EBay for about £17. I've experienced no dropouts or other funnies, although I never go above 44.1KHz/16 Bit. I've just tweaked the H2 and at 96KHz/24Bit this card would give me a shade under two hours of re...

Why is it I always get to these topics so late - I know, I don't visit the site often enough! I have had the Zoom H2 for a couple of months now and am very pleased with it. I've used it for radio interviews - with and without an external mic and for recording music - using the internal mics and thro...

Recording Acoustic Guitar
Questions about, and problems with, recording acoustic guitar seem to crop up quite frequently in this forum. Therefore, I thought that "anoraks" might be interested in hearing about the SE Electronics GM10 microphone which is designed specifically for recording this instrument. You get a ...
