Re: Ukulele, Guitalele, Banjolele and suchlike

I decided to move my pictures to a better webpage MUCH better, thanks for making the effort. You really do like banjoleles don't you? I also noticed the Brunswick BU5B. I had one but gave it to my brother-in-law. I now have the Brunswick BU4B which has a brighter sound even tuned DGBE. My own perso...

Taylor 562ce 12 string ... Is there such a thing as a civilised 12 string?

So, here I am, an old codger of 71yrs, going on 72 with dodgey lungs and a dodgey finger or two who is about to write a review about what, to my mind ( the sanity of which several have questioned ), is the best 12 string guitar I’ve ever been mad enough to buy. As you may know from my previous posts...

Re: Very worrying discoveries on the bridge of my Viator 6

Surely the bridge isn't meant to be like that is it? Does anyone know? Just thought I'd quote myself to see if anyone can pick up on my previous post about the Viator 6 and offer any thoughts about what I found when I studied the bridge. After a lot of strange problems I've eventually managed to up...

Re: Culling old vinyls can be an emotional experience

Hope you've bought the lavish new Last Of England LP That's an interesting one. As I've just commented in a reply to Brad, I don't buy new LPs but 'Last of England' was actually a recording of Gordon's that didn't really strike home for me. There could be two reasons for that: I bought the CD in Ma...

Re: Culling old vinyls can be an emotional experience

Hi again Brad, good to hear from you again. I read your thoughts with interest. I've also pondered and experimented to see if I can detect a difference between vinyl and CD. Being a bit of a BOF at times, I even combined one of my culling sessions with having particular LP's on the turntable and the...

Yamaha LL16ARE12 Twelve string guitar with pre-aged woods

Had an unexpected treat recently and the chance to handle and play a Yamaha LL16ARE12. I didn't know what ARE stood for until I checked. It's apparently a Yamaha patented method for treating and 'pre-ageing' wood which they call Acoustic Resonance Enhancement. The guitar I played had only been bough...

Culling old vinyls can be an emotional experience

I'm getting ready to move to a new home near my daughter. Part of that process has involved several sessions of sorting and culling my collection of vinyl LPs. As I'm a member of this forum and - as you'll have inferred - a bit of a 'whitterer', it won't come as a surprise to find out that I natural...

Re: I'd never heard of Massimo Varini - have you?

Good to see you are 'back in the swing' with recent contributions Thanks. I was very appreciative of the supportive and kind comments I received a little while ago from forum members. My wife's death after 10+ years fighting cancer took a considerable emotional toll on me and my daughter. I'm now c...

I'd never heard of Massimo Varini - have you?

Isn't it a joy when you unexpectedly discover a superb musician demonstrating a guitar with incredible skill and musicianship? I was at a loose end and started cruising Youtube watching demos of such 'ordinary' little guitars as the Guild D-125, and 1512E, 2512E or a Martin D12X1AE, not to mention a...

Re: Ukulele, Guitalele, Banjolele and suchlike

it needs retuning on the odd occasion. Not unlike a 12 string guitar then? With both instruments I think you either come to love that characteristic foible or you get fed up and give up. I must be a masochist because I love them both and enjoy those regular tweaks. (And no -that isn't a double ente...

Re: Ukulele, Guitalele, Banjolele and suchlike

Have a check out of my lovely friend Victoria Vox. Excellent. There's a really strong group of young female uke players like Victoria, Brittini Pavia and Tamaine Gardner to mention just two others. In her earlier days 'LP' used uke a lot but now I think she's moved on to tenor guitar. Either way, t...

Re: Ukulele, Guitalele, Banjolele and suchlike

What I saw looked fascinating but my computer is rather long in the tooth (like me) and the constant barrage of pointless adverts slowed it down so much that I gave up. However, I think we can safely say that you are definitely a fully accredited member of the UASS (UAS Society).

Very worrying discoveries on the bridge of my Viator 6

A great little instrument and I love it but I needed to lower the action. That was when I was rather disturbed by what I found. What I discovered was that the top of the saddle was already notched and worn as if the 3 or 4 re-tunings I'd done whilst experimenting between standard and G-G tunings wer...

Re: Ukulele, Guitalele, Banjolele and suchlike

I'm starting to have a ghastly premonition that my own initials 'A.S' actually stand for 'Acquisition Syndrome'. Could my parents have been that far-seeing when they named me? I've had UAS for some time with a Kala soprano + Kala long-neck soprano + Kala concert + Pono Baritone (DGBE) + Brunswick ba...

Re: Vintage Viator

Lots of chat here from recent times about the Viator but not much in recent months so I thought I'd try to kick-start things again. I now have the recently-released version of the 6 string Viator with built in Fishman pickup with USB included. I also have the Viator 12 string. In due course, I'll po...
