Re: Vintage VE2000GG 12 string - my experience

Thanks Andrew. My wife's favourite music has actually proved to have the opposite effect at the moment - perhaps it takes time because I'm also finding it uncomfortable to go back to places that we used to enjoy going to together. Clearing the house and trying to decide whether to move nearer to my ...

Re: Vintage VE2000GG 12 string - my experience

Thanks Roger, much appreciated. Yes - you're right about music. For the family and village get-together that I arranged after my wife's funeral and commemoration service, I put together a compilation CD of her favourite classical music and another of all the music she loved throughout her life - mos...

Re: Ukulele, Guitalele, Banjolele and suchlike

Hi again. As for not buying into "... the Tiny Tim allusion ..." he was actually an expert player but, of course, only had that one tulip-inspired hit. However, there are many accounts if his expertise on the instrument and he's usually given a good write-up in books about the history of u...

Re: Ukulele, Guitalele, Banjolele and suchlike

The need to tweak tuning is endemic amongst ukuleles but with an electronic tuner it's a matter of seconds unless an instrument is a real cheapo or has poor intonation. More than guitars, ukes can be susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity if moved between rooms or if transported from one...

Ukulele, Guitalele, Banjolele and suchlike

“Ukulele” ???? What the …. ????????????????? If your first thoughts were along the lines of ‘George Formby’ or ‘Tiny Tim’ or ‘toy!’ I humbly suggest that this post and any thread which develops from it might not be for you …. or maybe it will convince you to have a go. For over 50 years, I’ve been ...

Re: Health Update Jan 2017

My most heartfelt wishes Gordon. I hope that the prognosis is as accurate and positive as it sounds. I can empathise with both yourself and your family having been beside my late wife during the 10+ years she fought her own illness. I understand how events and experiences like this can shake the gro...

Re: Vintage VE2000GG 12 string - my experience

To avoid going off-topic, I'll simply add that my preferred ukes now are a Pono baritone and a Pono tenor with a Kala concert and long neck soprano also in the mix. As for guitars that I'll be keeping (at least for a while), an Admira Capricho classical, a Taylor GS Mini (superb to play) and a PRS S...

Re: Vintage VE2000GG 12 string - my experience

Hi again Brad. Yes, I'm still here despite being silent on the forum for ages. Several reasons for that but the main one being that my wife's cancer returned and although she fought it for several years (over 10 from the time it was first found), she died just before Christmas. Like you, I also stil...

Re: VINTAGE GUITARS - A NEW EXPERIENCE !

Ahhhhh ... GAS. I know it well and have only recently started to prescribe for myself some sort of cure by 'letting go' of 3 guitars. (Vintage V100 'Iced Tea' + weird copy of a Steve Vai electric + Crafter MD50 12/N). Can't say there's any likelihood of me parting with my Vintage Paul Brett 12 stri...

Re: LAG S200PE parlour - discontinued but worth looking for

Charity shop? How much did you have to pay, I wonder? Sounds like the previous owner wasn't really all that careful or maybe the guitar had a useful if rather unloved life? You mention that the Shadow system has failed. I'm not sure how easy that will be to repair or replace. LAG have now dropped pr...

LAG S200PE parlour - discontinued but worth looking for

In previous posts elsewhere in this forum, I have made mention of the LAG S200PE (GLA200PE) parlour guitar, so I thought I'd revisit a review I wrote for a separate forum some years ago to update it, add to it and post it here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------...

Re: Vintage Paul Brett signature 12 string guitar - a niggle

Hi Trevor Much as it really annoys me, I've pretty well come to the same conclusion as you. I'm also about to install an across-the-soundhole Shadow pickup into my Crafter 12. The 'coin' battery will be easier to access and replace. I'll almost certainly install at least one PP3 into the PB12 just s...

Re: Flabby fingertip

I would have thought the thinner G string on a 12 string guitar would be easier to break Hi Mel, thanks for commenting. Probably not such an issue for me as I keep both my 12's tuned a tone and a half below standard, so string tensions are much-reduced. try holding your guitar behind the fretboard ...

Re: Vintage Paul Brett signature 12 string guitar - a niggle

Wow - very unusual for Vintage guitars to arrive so badly set up. Am really stumped with what to do about the battery bag. There's no way to gain access to anything without loosening quite a few strings - this really is a stupid system and completely works against easy access. The solution seems to ...
