Radio Mics, Wireless Guitar Systems and In-ear Monitors
A couple of forum members have contacted me in the last couple of days asking about the proposed legislation on the reallocation of radio frequencies currently used by entertainment and broadcast radio systems and if it's going to make their current radio systems obsolete or illegal. As this may aff...

I agree 100% with Russ on speaker cables! I always use orange two-core mains (minimum 6-amp - ideally 10-amp+ depending on the amp power) for the exact reasons Russ states. Whilst using instrument cables to connect speakers is OK (but not recommended) as long as the power output of the amp is modest...

Upton-on-Severn
Great concert in an attractive venue. The concert was held in a marquee at the The Kings Head next to the River Severn. The marquee was attractively decorated and lit, which made for a pleasant and intimate venue - just as well really as the audience was 'select'! Nevertheless, this was a small, but...

Hi Eddie I don't know these particular speakers, but from your description they sound like a set of Marshalls I had some time ago. (Incidentally, I sold those for a LOT more than I paid for them; so I'd advise you to look after yours - they could be worth something!) These speakers almost certainly ...

New Feature at Gordon's Concerts?
From the picture of Gordon with his new Toon guitar in the May News Update it seems like Gordon may have introduced Community Hymn-Singing as a new feature of his concerts!
If so, will we be able to include our favourites in the Request Book?

Thanks for those responses Andrew and Russ. I've been holding back from responding to see if anyone else wanted to air an opinion. I have to say that I agree with what you've both said. There are so many other variables in the equation when you listen to amplified 'anything'! I think that, although ...

Is the amplified acoustic a dead-end?
Three months ago I posted a topic here: "Have you Seen January's Performing Musician?". One of the articles I referrred to in that post was what I thought was quite a controversial piece about the severe limitations of pick-ups in acoustic guitars. This article has just come out of its 'yo...

Hi Tim I didn't do anything complicated or expensive. The mixer was a little Behringer 502 - perfectly adequate for this job - with nothing connected to the outputs - simply driving the in-ears. The actual earpieces were a pair of Sony in-ear headphones from Argos! As I recall, they were about £30. ...

Many thanks Trevor; that's just the kind of advice I needed! I'll investigate and we'll see how we go. Tried the mandolin man with some in-ears and a small mixer yesterday. Gave him a direct feed on one channel and a general foldback feed of keys and lead vocal on the other. He could then blend the ...

Mandolin and Mandola Live
My apologies that I'm off topic here (i.e. not about guitar matters) but I'm sure someone who inhabits this part of the forum will have some useful advice. The band I work with most often has recently recruited a mandola/mandoline player. Both instruments have 'stick-on' pickups; I haven't yet inves...

Sausages!? Sausages!? If I'd known there were sausages... :D Anyway, It'll be good to meet Keith next weekend at Steeple Aston. Bob Wilson was thinking of coming up from Trowbridge too, so we may have a Forum 'gathering'. Yes; Paul and and his good lady are all geared up for their visit... arrangeme...
