Andrew, As Mike says, the pickups which Gordon regularly uses on his guitars are the Fishman Rare Earth Blend pickups with a built in microphone on a goose-neck so that they can be placed at an optimum point in the soundbox for a good sound (whatever that animal is). http://www.fishman.com/uploads/p...

I'd just like to add my best wishes to all the gang here too. Have a fantastic Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. I hope that all of you are enjoying Gordon's "A Midnight Clear" at the top of your Crimble playlists over the festive season . If not don't forget there's ...

I'd really echo your thoughts, Roger. Considering the UK's size we're unusually blessed with great luthiers - builders of the most amazing acoustic guitars, electric guitars and basses. I count myself so honoured to have picked up a number of wonderful instruments made in UK and I'd agree that for t...

Gordon's next big collaboration...

I was so chuffed to read in the November news-cast about Gordon's plans to collaborate with the accordion player Karen Tweed on his next album. Frankly that's something I really can't wait to hear. Thea and I used to see Karen playing live loads not long after we were married. She was a member of th...

Ah yes... a classic Giltrap quip, methinks. "If you're ever about to be taken out to face a firing squad and the ask if you've got any final request just say, 'Let me just get this 12 string in tune'."

Apparently it's for "charidee"... so that covers over a multitude of sins. Personally I'll stick to a Crimble playlist heavy on "A Midnight Clear", the Phil Spector album, Aimee Mann's recent christmas album (absloutely brilliant!) and the obligatory Slade/Wombles/Wizzard/Kirsty ...

Oooooooh, that is pretty darned close to perfect so just for the basis of debate and interest I'll say... Design and build by Andy and Simon at Brook Guitars in Devon. Just coz I'm biased doesn't mean I'm wrong! Finishing by Roger at Fylde, of course, but with a few tasteful custom inlays by Brook t...

On the other hand...

...and bearing in mind the little bit is Award Session geekieness going on elsewhere on the site you could order some bespoke made Cleartone cables from them. I've pretty much gone over to them 100% - both instrument cables and speaker cables. Really good quality and very very reasonably priced. AND...

Russ, I know. I've always been soooooooooo tempted to get one of the Longhorn Basses and when the reissues came out the credit card started to positively itch in anticipation. As of yet I haven't managed to find the justificationn to plop down the cash but it is one of those basses which is just so ...

Mental note to self...

I wake up (for my sins) to Sarah Kennedy on Radio 2 every monring. I keep reminding myself that I must send an e-mail in to her show suggesting that she use FB&S for the little classical slot after the 6:15 inspirational chat. She used Bay Burley's lovely album of GG covers for a whole week arou...

Ashworth transducers

http://www.highlystrung.co.uk/acatalog/ashworth_pickups_transducers.html I've had very good results with an Ashworth pickup on a Fylde Bouzouki which is in the same sort of range as a mandola. Also, using an Award GG10/AP10 sa a preamp/toneshaper wouldn't go amiss either - particularly the ability t...

Yeah, spotted that too! Another sitting up on the sofa grinning at each other. Worked brilliantly to suit the atmospherics of the segments. Great to hear that the sound editors at the Beeb are Giltrapophiles!!

however, I'm a little disappointed in you if you haven't read the Forum or visited the website since TOMY in September .... as a ( supposedly ) dedicated GG fan, that really isn't good enough !! No excuses about nurses and medication will be taken into account ! HA! 8) I promise that I...

D'oh! You're quite right Sue... clear case of brain-fade! I was browsing around the site and I must have read the previous ToMY posting and this and got all confused. Time for a lie down and a cup of Horlicks before the nurse comes round with my medicines... It is always nice though wh...
