Re: Chris Squire

Gutted when I heard this news. He was such a great bass player and one of my formative influences as a player. So very very sad.

Re: Vintage Paul Brett signature 12 string guitar - a niggle

Oldbones, I would definitely vote for option 3 as the way forward. I certainly wouldn’t start hacking into the side of the guitar (even if you hired a professional to do so) and bits of wire hanging out of the sound hole will be much more of a longer term hassle and annoyance factor than string slac...

Re: Problems playing a mandolin after years of playing a gui

Mel, the neck on a mandolin is tiny and I've known lots of guitarists who have struggled with cramming their fingers into such unfeasibly small spaces. You might always look at another option by amending your challenge slightly from "mandolin" to "mandolin family". Something like...

Travelling light...

Travelling light... Over Christmas it struck me that I haven't seen any mention here of Gordon's latest album release, a fine collaboration with another fine artist... No, not Ravens And Lullabies, rather the Vintage Guitars promo CD "The Travellers". Intrigued by the CD, basically a promo...

Re: Guitars (and basses and other stuff) wot I have owned...

I'm looking to add a small bodied acoustic to the family, have been looking at Furch/Stonebridge but a couple of secondhand Brook guitars have caught my eye. I'd be interested to hear your views on them Trevor. In an short phrase... If you see a 2nd hand Brook at a decent price... snap it up. In a ...

Happy birthday Mike. Hmmmmm... "When I'm 64"... That would be a good name for a tune. Someone should write that... ;-)

Re: Ania's birthday.

Ania, a belated happy birthday. What a lovely tune and we know what a special present it Must have been. We are so privileged to have just become members of that exclusive club Em and Roger referred to ourselves and know just how much heart, love and soul Gordon puts into each of his wonderful compo...

Re: Guitars (and basses and other stuff) wot I have owned...

Forgive me Father for I have sinned, it has been three months since my last confession. I have been lead astray by lusts of the tonewood and I have fallen prey to temptation... So, as if that list at the top of the thread wasn't long enough I've fallen prey to another acoustic-electric beauty. All f...

RIP Johnny "Gus" Gustafson

Was so very very sad to hear this morning that the bass player, John Gustafson had passed away. You may not have hear OF him but you have certainly heard him. He was a member of the Merseybeats, provided some of Roxy Music's most iconic bass lines including Love Is The Drug. He was a pivotal part of...

The Lords Seat on lute

Saw this posted on Gordon's Twitter feed. Given that this song was always supposed to suggest the lute it is lovely to hear it actually played on one. Beautiful cover!

Mike, I guess that would qualify as "stuff" so do share :D

Ps Shure SM58' Shure Beta 57 (my personal fave vocal mic) and a small diaphragm Rode condenser which is lovely for acoustic guitars! 8)

Guitars (and basses and other stuff) wot I have owned...

Inspired by Brad's fine suggestion I thought I should start up a "guitars wot we have owned" thread. So to start us off here is what I own in my guitar and stuff collection... My current instruments... As a bass player for the most part it is dominated by basses but there is some other int...
