Difficult to offer advice as the same pickup will sound different in different guitars as so much is dependent on the design and materials used in the manufacture of the guitar. I can comment from personal experience on 3 different acoustic pickups types: 1) Fishman Rare Earth Blend. This is an acit...

Hi Mike, Several guitars: Fylde GG Signature prototype; Fylde Alchemist; Ovation Celebrity bowl-back. Fyldes have Fishman Rare Earth Blend (set roughly 50:50 mic:magnetic) and the ovation has a Fishman piezo undersaddle. All go into an Award-Session GG-10 pre-amp and thence into a desk and out to po...

Gordon (and the gang), You never seem to struggle with what is surely the acoustic guitarists nemsis - feedback  . Do you have any gadgets that you use during soundcheck to help eliminate it? I've been thinking about the L.R. Baggs Feedback Master but it's £120 and don't want to shell out i...

Hi Gordon, Thanks for the reply - it has indeed been long and long. Thanks for the correction - have just done a bit more homework and realised I was confused and was thinking you were using the SP+ which appear to be the coated version of the SPs. Your view of coated strings ties in with what I was...

Ok...not sure if this has been discussed here before (and humble apologies if it has) but what are people's views on the new coated type of guitar strings? Seems to me they would surely have a slightly duller tone than an uncoated set and would quickly become 'furred' (thus removing any advantage it...

Hi Sue, I have recently acquired the Zoom H4 and I have to say I am very impressed with it. I haven't tried to record a band in full swing but it does a very good job with acoustic guitar and vocals and it's pretty straightforward to use (always a big plus in my opinion!). Never tried it but I would...

That's interesting - thanks. I tried the mic again recently, this time at a pub gig and feedback was immediate and huge so resorted to the Fishman Blend and GG-10 which worked fine although (don't tell Russ) I had to use a Boss EQ pedal to cut the frequencies around 800hz to kill the last remaining ...

I've been using a Fylde through a Fishman Blend and GG-10 pre-amp for recording solo stuff and also for live work with the band but had pretty much retired the acoustic from live because you just have to spend so much time fiddling to avoid feedback etc. However we did a wedding a couple of weeks ag...
