Re: Dodo's Dream

Ok, so I'm not known for being fickle, but I've just found a new favourite version of Dodo. It is on the live CD "As It Happens" which I have just bought. It is the first version as Gordon plays it twice at the concert, once in its more usual spot before the interval and again at the end w...

Re: Sumbro PS1

Good choice. They are a reliable and solid performing string but don't be afraid to experiment. You may find something else that opens up the voice of the instrument even more. As to the action I recommend, like Roger said, that you get a good luthier to assess it. Classical instruments don't have t...

Re: Shady Tales played by Polish guitarist Witold Żuromski

Really good and nice to hear a classical instrument rendition. The "colours" of the music change with nylon strings and it provides a different slant on a piece.

Re: Sumbro PS1

You will find every instrument reacts and sounds differently to a given type of string, so the best thing to do is for the first half dozen times you change strings try something new each time. Good strings are made by many firms including Martin, Savarez and Hannabach as well as D'Addario, but try ...

Re: Pierre Bensusan

I am learning Michael Hedges' Bensusan at the moment, his tribute to Pierre. When Hedges died Bensusan wrote a piece called So Long Michael as a tribute in return. PB is a tremendous guitarist and has quite a varied repertoire.

Re: Dodo's Dream

My favourite is the version on the CD accompanying the booklet that Bob put together on how to play it. It is a fabulous piece and still a challenge to get the timing spot on! Love it :-)

Re: Question for Gordon re Vintage Travel Guitar

Hi Rog. I don't know if you've explored this further but Paul Brett in his publicity vid for the Viator says that it will take Terz tuning, so up 3 semitones I think. With 10s fitted I feel confident it will easily take that - mine has 11s and stays in EBEBEF# with no ill effects. I've also fitted a...

Guitar Workshop in Buxton

September 11th-13th saw Gordon’s inaugural guitar workshop held at the Old Hall Hotel, Buxton. People came from all over: Somerset (me), Kent, Hull and from places not so far afield including Cheshire. Gordon was ably helped by Garry Burnett, a long standing friend and excellent guitarist who knows ...

Re: Guitar Workshop

Hi Roger. I'm just about to go for breakfast in the hotel on the morning of the last day of the workshop and will post more about the event later this week, but it is AMAZING. :D :D (Although my fingertips are going "Please be gentle with us, pleeeeeeease")

Double Visions - Kings Arts Centre, Cheddar 17th July

This was the first time I had seen Ray and Gordon as a duo. I was at the 4-Parts Guitar gig in South Petherton in April so got to meet Ray then along with Clive and John, but the pairing of G and R as Double Visions I had missed up until this weekend. It was a simple setup. Ray only had one guitar (...

Re: New amp.

He he...you've got GAS (Guitarist's Acquisition Syndrome)...but I can't talk...I've had that for a while too. I've been looking at my Marshall Valvestate VS30R and thinking it isn't really appropriate and maybe I could do with something a little smaller and more acoustic guitar friendly, but then it...

Re: John Renbourn RIP.

The passing of another great legend, diminishing the pool of Genius. Maybe not "diminishing" as some of today's young guitarists will become tomorrow's legends, but it certainly changes the balance. I had a listen to The Lady and the Unicorn today, not listened to it for a while. Renbourn...

Re: USB interfaces and recording

Well, after some more research I have settled on a Behringer Xenyx Q1202USB mixer that will power my condenser mic and gives me more channels than I really need. At £74 and only a few quid more than the smaller Behringer models it seemed silly not to. It has just arrived and I'm looking forward to r...
