Huntingdon Hall, Worcester November 11th

Just got my ticket! Is anyone else from here going? I'm sure it'll be a fantastic night and I know from previous concerts, the venue is lovely too. I think this will be my 6th GG concert at this venue alone. Looking forward to it and the fact that it's on my Birthday makes it even more special too. :)

Re: Any other concept albums?

That's funny, as I always considered Visionary, Perilous Journey and Fear Of The Dark as heavily "themed" records, if not strictly, concept records, not to mention, The Peacock Party! Anyway, Ash, all the above are absolutely essential listening and in a similar vein to PJ. I agree that th...

RIP Nanci Griffith

So sad to learn of the passing of Nanci Griffith (68), the Texan "folkabilly" singer songwriter who had a strong following over here but especially in Ireland. I recall seeing her live only a few times less than I've seen Gordon over the years! She was always a consummate professional and ...

Re: Pofacetilly New Album!

Hi Gordon, I trust you're well. Is lockdown helpful to the art of creating? Thank you for your reply. I find the technique described quite fascinating and the results are really excellent. The cobbling work from jam sessions might explain what sounds like abrupt fades of your guitar here and there. ...

Pofacetilly New Album!

Hello everyone, First off, I hope everybody is keeping safe and well during these very difficult times. If we all stick together we'll get through this. I was browsing Amazon recently and found reference to a new album by Gordon and Stuart Jones called "Pofacetilly". Imagine my surprise wh...

Re: Chepstow Drill Hall Concert - 26 April

Ric Sanders was a one-time member of Fairport Convention but he's played with other musicians over the years and similar to Gordon, he has had a successful solo career too. I don't recall the beard but I might be mistaken! I think you're referring to Ric's piece called "PDC (Pretty Damn Cosmic)...

Re: Chepstow Drill Hall Concert - 26 April

Suffice to say that visiting some young friends on the way home - they both remembered the concert of yours in Cheltenham - must have been back in late 80's/90's ?? As non guitarists and not particularly musical - THAT is an accolade indeed.. !!! I wonder how "young" your good friends are...

Re: Litchfield Guildhall concert nearly here.

It was another outstanding performance given in very humid conditions (the hall had very little natural ventilation due to the tiny window openings and it was a very hot sultry evening) which was noted by Gordon when he took to the stage. We chatted briefly in the intermission and I remarked that it...

Re: Culling old vinyls can be an emotional experience

To join this discussion late in the day I'd only like to repeat what I've said in the original thread that the LP of "Last Of England" sounds much better than the CD due to the superior mastering. That, in my opinion, is the major problem with 99% of pop recordings these days - since Oasis...

Re: LAST OF ENGLAND LP and Launch gig

Having played the LP now I am happy to report it sounds just as fine as it looks. The sound has a level of depth, natural resonance and timbre that the CD just can't quite attain. I'm not sure if Paul Ward actually mastered this (he is credited with mastering the album in general) or who cut the lac...

Re: LAST OF ENGLAND LP and Launch gig

Hi Sue, Many thanks! Yes, I've spoken to Pete now and as of today I am in possession of the new LP complete with signed poster! It is a thing of real beauty and highly recommended to all our vinyl loving friends. Oh happy days..... When I get home later I will be spinning the album again. Best wishe...

Re: LAST OF ENGLAND LP and Launch gig

Hi Sue, Do you happen to know the official release date of this LP as I have already ordered it from Psychotron Records (it's not listed as a "pre-order") but I've yet to receive it and yet I note it appears to be already "available" from Amazon and some "marketplace" t...

Re: The Last of England - CD

Has anyone picked up the new vinyl LP version? I'm curious to know which two tracks have been omitted for the purpose of trimming the album to optimise the vinyl pressing sound quality. I have already ordered it from the shop / record label and can't wait for it to arrive. I have no idea if I'll get...
