We actively encourage people to donate prizes and set a challenge for who can donate the most spectacular prize.....tonight we had two bottles of wine, a massive box of liquorice allsorts, some ch...

Re: Guitars (and basses and other stuff) wot I have owned...
Mike, I have new favourites! The Rhode M3 has to be the best value for money mic I have ever come across! I use them for drum overheads, acoustic guitar and female vocals, both live and recording..........all for about sixty quid each! OK...on the guitar front here, I might have a problem...um, shal...

Re: Harp Guitar amplification
Sorry I'm a bit late to this, but I have been giving it some thought. The nearest instruments to this I have ever had to amplify have been hammer dulcimers and autoharps, but the principle shoulf be similar in that you need to approach this 'holistically'. The methods would vary depending on either ...

Re: Mics and Miking
Ahh, no Mike! In my case it is both the 606 and 609 that I really like for guitar cabinet micing, though I do have to say, I am really favouring the Sonntronics Halo these days! For those wanting to record acoustic guitar and/or vocals on a budget, my newest 'go-to' is the Rode M3 small diaphram con...

On the mic front, I can offer up (for cabinet micing) Sennheiser 606, Sennheiser 609 and a Sontronics 'Halo'. For acoustic guitar Sontronics STC-2 and Joe Meek JM-27.

Shergold
Now, it's no secret that I am a big fan of the English guitars that were manufactured during the seventies; Ned Callan, Doug Wilkes, Hayman and of course Shergold. In particular Hayman and Shergold are renowned for their suberb necks which are arguably the best designed electric neck ever made. The ...

Re: Ravens and Lullabies Band, Poole, Dorset - 26 April 2014
Fantastic review Roger - I almost felt I was there....which indeed I would have been if circumastances allowed! As it happens, I was involved with engineering a three day Belgian beer festival which commenced with Ash's Blues Machine on Friday night, a young band from Belgium on Saturday and then Ga...

Hayman guitars
Well, it has only taken me about thirtyfive years, but I have finally managed to get hold of a Hayman six string electric. It is all I hoped - truly the missing link between Burns and Shergold and as such, probably superior to both of them. The model I have is the 3030 - unusually with twin single c...

Re: Bert Jansch celebration at Royal Festival Hall 3 Dec 201
We would have given anything to have been there on the night - especially Ash, as he was so nearby, but sadly this completely slipped under the radar for us and we found out about it too late!! I look forward to hearing/watching the recording of the night though - any idea when it will be broadcast?...

Re: Help on choosing my next acoustic
Hi Matt, from what you have just said it really does sound like you will find everything you want within the Vintage range. I am sure Gordon can point you in the direction of your nearest dealer. And yes; that is the very pre-amp I was talking about, but as you pointed out, rather pointless if you a...

Re: Help on choosing my next acoustic
Just to take a slightly controversial stance on this, here are my thoughts; Firstly, the last thing I would consider when making this kind of choice is the pickup system - this is something that should be your choice based around what and more typically how and where you play. The choice of guitar r...
