Isaac Guillory

Isaac Guillory... Wowee. What stunning music and one of the all-time great performers. He was recommended to me some years ago and, for some reason, I can't have taken much notice. Those YouTube vids were a revelation. Even better is that the full 50 minute performance from 1989 is available for fre...

Thanks Russ. I haven't yet tried mixing in the under-saddle pickup, and, you know, it hadn't even occurred to me. Have tried two mics once or twice... didn't work for me... a strange phasing-effect, probably down to incorrect positioning. Well, I've made some recording-advances since last I posted o...

Same here, Jon. I used to change them all in one go, taking the opportunity to give the soundboard a good clean whilst they were off and to retrieve all the posted picks and various dusty detritis from inside. However, someone more knowledgable than I gave me the same advice you received, and I now ...

Cropredy solo... mid-eighties. And then in Oxford, with Ric Sanders. Was that really 1988? Oh crikey. I still remember both well, and I'd certainly cite these as being major inspirations for taking up the guitar some time later. Never did take the virtuoso route, but I can appreciate the amount of d...

Thank you for your replies Sue and Gordon. I've been reading the links, and will spend the evening experimenting. Good to see I'm not the only one having problems miking for a nice acoustic sound. It's a bit of a learning-curve, this! The AKG looks great [and Gordon's recordings with it are gorgeous...

Miking the Oberon

I would really appreciate any advice anyone could give with relation to getting a good recorded sound at home for acoustic guitar; specifically for the Fylde Oberon. I'm using a £100 Chinese-made large-diaphragm condenser and, whilst it seems fine for vocals and fiddle, I'm having real trouble getti...

I've used Martin SP on my Fylde Oberon lately, in preference to the coated Elixir Nanowebs I had been using previously. Acoustically, I find them softer than the Elixirs... perhaps a little mellow for my style, but they come into their own when going through the PA. They just sound right with pretty...
