Re: John Bailey Guitar - An astonishing Discovery!!!

Hey Gordon, I was in Sussex yesterday so took the time to meet your mate David Crozier at Old School Guitars in Newhaven. If other readers haven't made the trip down there it is an amazing place in perhaps the most odd location I've ever seen for a guitar shop but man once ur inside - heaven on eart...

Re: John Bailey Guitar - An astonishing Discovery!!!

Hi y'all, Well, this story has reached its conclusion and for those of you who are interested I thought I'd cut and paste an email that I have today written to Roger Williams (luthier, and in whose capable hands she has been entrusted), Gordon Giltrap who needs no introduction on this forum, and the...

Re: The John Bailey Doubleneck

All hands on deck when it comes to the John's instruments I reckon... Good piece btw... I think it was Nick Penny (a former pupil of John's) who suggested the idea of a dedicated JB website; the scope could be huge - a catelogue, biog, famous instruments, famous players, discography of recordings us...

Re: John Bailey Guitar - An astonishing Discovery!!!

Hi, I really wanted to thank you all here, publically and collectively, for all the help you have given me. In no particular order: Marcus Brierly - An early contact, Bailey fan, and an owner of a 1966 (?) Bailey. Jon Garvey - An early contact, one time owner of the Ralf Denyer / Gordon Giltrap Bail...

Re: Restore or Retire?

Hey G, As per my email, here for public consumption, YES YES YES! (A loose quote from, 'When Harry met Sally') To have Mr Giltrap AND Mr Burley play this old girl is beyond the belief of this Sunday leaguer, totally thrilling. But damn, why couldn't you have been born a leftie eh? Cheers and h...

Re: Restore or Retire?

Hey G, I guess that is me told eh :D Seriously though, from my first private email to you, through our conversations, my post above, and indeed my first public post on here, my instinct has always been that this instrument needs to be heard openly. I've taken much advice including that from your goo...

Restore or Retire?

Apologies for opening a new thread about my Bailey Guitar but this is relevant to all guitars / owners and I want to conduct an opinon poll so please do answer, if only briefly, rather than just read this post :-) RESTORE OR RETIRE? I have been listening to much advice and there is coming a time whe...

Re: John Bailey Guitar - An astonishing Discovery!!!

Hey Jon, Gotta say you brightened up my day on two counts! Firstly no-one has addressed me as Duvet in years. Sure it is my profile name, email address etc but Duvet was a nickname I gained as a first generation raver in the 80's; I'll leave it to your imagination to guess how I came by it. Anyway, ...

Re: John Bailey Guitar - An astonishing Discovery!!!

Quick update :-) Have spoken to Gordon at length and have come to hugely value his advice. Hopefully I'll be able to introduce Gordon to this first Bailey Guitar on the 6th July in Peterborough. Although we've not yet spoken I've decided to follow Gordon's advice and to entrust the guitar to Roger W...

Re: John Bailey Guitar - An astonishing Discovery!!!

Totally thrilled to have received a call from Gordon today and to speak to one of my heros! As I was saying to Sue, in my book GG is right up there with Pallestrina, Allegri, Bowie, Dylan and Joan Baez (in no particular order!). OK an odd group perhaps to include Bowie, and both Pallestrina and Alle...

Re: John Bailey Guitar - An astonishing Discovery!!!

PS Recently mum offered the guitar (as a gift) back to Maureen (JB's wife) as she thought someone in the family may want it but she kindly declined. It was a gift from John and so it should remain. Incidentally, some of you may know Maureen and mum would prefer it if no-one hassle Maureen about this...

John Bailey Guitar - An astonishing Discovery!!!

I'll try and keep this brief - much to say!!! Jon Garvey, who owned GG's famous Bailey doubleneck between 1984 & 1993 ish directed me to this forum. In any event, my mother and stepfather Larry (d2007) were teachers at Haverstock school in London, the UK's first Comprehensive and quite a Bohemia...
