Re: Intonation...
I should add (I'd forgotten after all this time), that as well as filing the bridge to give clearance, and inserting the new bridge pieces behind, I'd first removed the bridge and planed it down on the underside to lower the action. The high action was responsible for most of the intonation problems...

Re: Intonation...
Here's a DIY mod I made to my Levin 45 years ago, and it's played in tune ever since.
(with medium gauge strings - only an adjustable bridge a la stratocaster could cope with differing gauges)

The Ovation strings http://www.stringitup.com/ova-5119.html were the best sounding I've ever had, and kept their edge for longer than the Martin's, but they're still Steel/Phosphor Bronze, so will also degrade with time, even infrequently played. The Rohrbacher's are indeed from Mike's link, specifi...

The short life of strings
There's nothing nicer than the sound of a brand-new set of strings on an accoustic guitar. All of those delicious high harmonic overtones give such a delightful crisp ring to every pluck and strum. Combine it with a bit of reverb, courtesy of the bathroom tiling, and there you are, at the Albert Hal...

Re: ANGIE.
I'm sorry to hear that you suffered abuse (peasants !). It's a sad fact that the anonymity of the web encourages uncivilized behaviour in a moronic minority. I lurked unregistered on one technical site (looking for information about buggy firmware in a DVR), and was astonished to find that it contai...

My only experience of Davy Graham's music came second hand via Paul Simon and Bert Jansch, each playing their version of Anji. It seemed a good challenge, so I learned it by imitation (guess what I'm playing in the Avatar ?) but I never heard the original. Recently the BBC (BBC4) have had a series o...

Anyone registered on this site is, by definition, an admirer of excellence in guitar playing. Until I saw Gordon in concert on Saturday and witnessed the precision and clarity of his left hand fingering at close range, I thought there was only one man alive with such enviable talent. If you're not a...

I saw this concert on local posters, and bought tickets as a long-standing Wakeman fan, and was delighted to find one of the guitarists on my "Contemporary Guitar Sampler" (volume 1 - why no mention in the discography ?), would be guesting. I was privileged to be in the front row, just a f...
