Watlington is a quaint village at the foot of the Chiltern Hills in south Oxfordshire, just minutes from junction 6 of the M40, and becoming well known for the wonderful Red Kites that circle overhead.
When Gordon was appearing on the BBC Radio 2 Ken Bruce Show doing the Tracks of His Years, a member of the Friends of Watlington Library heard him and approached Leigh Greenham with the idea of asking Gordon to do a concert in support of the fund to rebuild the library.
The nearby Icknield Community College will be a super venue for this concert, having great sound and lighting and comfortable tiered seating. Liquid refreshments will be available before the concert and during the interval, and we hope to have a special celebrity to introduce Gordon.
The following information has been sent to me by Leigh Greenham, organiser of the Watlington concert on 4th July:
Things are now hotting up for the charity gig that I am organising for Gordon on 4th July in Watlington and we have already sold over half of the 250 tickets. Gordon has kindly agreed to hold a free masterclass/workshop at 5pm before the concert at 7:30pm, so I was wondering if you could add this to the listing on his website? (Places need to be reserved by contacting me) Locally, the idea of a masterclass has been quite newsworthy, and has allowed me to get coverage in local media that otherwise wouldn't have been interested.
Can you also perhaps put a posting on the forum about it? I know that some of Gordon's London based fans were asking where they might see him in a workshop-type event, and Watlington is less than one hour's drive from West London.
Thanks for your help,
Please contact Leigh by phone or email if you would like to book a free place at the workshop or purchase tickets for the concert.
Concert at 7.30pm, Tickets: £12 (£6 for under 16s)
