Private Booking Reviews
Diane Shorleson Oct 09
Well, it was just another Saturday night for most people, but not for me – celebrating turning 50 with Gordon Giltrap performing at my own private party, with nine of the most important people in the world to me – how fab was that?!
It was very fab actually as we were also celebrating my brother, Ian's 48th birthday on the same day (well done Mum and Dad for managing that!) In fact it was all down to Ian, that I ended up being a Gordon fan in the first place, as we were at home watching TV many years ago when he said "Hey Di, come and have a listen to this…" Then,…..there he was – a vision in white suit, black shirt and those dark curls – that was it – I was hooked!!! Ian and I went to see The Gordon Giltrap Band at the Liverpool Empire in 1981 and they were absolutely brilliant, and I have been following Gordon's music ever since.
So with friends and family around me the first request of the night was for Ian, and we kicked off with "On Camber Sands" which was as superb as ever. "A Dublin Day" with "twiddly bits" was for my lovely daughter Katy, with the rest of the set including "Appalachian Dreaming", "Isabella's Wedding" and of course "Heartsong". Then to the final request which is my own personal favourite, "The Dodo's Dream" dedicated to Andy, the man I have waited 50 years for, but believe me he was worth the wait, and who I love dearly. Gordon played this brilliantly and it sounded even better than on the CD.
Hilary, it was lovely to meet you, and great to hear from Gordon that you are, and continue to be his inspiration – I can quite understand why.
Gordon, thank you SO much for making our birthday celebrations something we will never forget. Personally, it was the best birthday I have ever had, superb music, much humour and just great fun. I just want another special occasion now, so we can have you back again!!
It was quite simply the best night ever….
With love and many thanks.
