Southbank Centre occupies a 21-acre site in the midst of London’s vibrant cultural quarter on the South Bank of the Thames. Southbank Centre includes Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, the Hayward Gallery, and the Saison Poetry Library. As well as these venues, there are restaurants, cafes, bars and shops to enjoy.
To celebrate one of the most influential guitarists of all time, Bert Jansch, a host of special guests unite for a unique show.
Guests include original members of Pentangle Jacqui McShee and Danny Thompson. Joining them will be Ralph McTell, Martin Simpson, Bernard Butler, Martin Carthy, Paul Wassif, Lisa Knapp, Gordon Giltrap and more. They will perform music played, written and inspired by Bert in tribute to his influence on their own music.
Bert Jansch's songs and groundbreaking musicianship made a lasting impression on many music legends, including Neil Young, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Paul Simon and Johnny Marr. This impact ripples through successive generations of musicians including Bernard Butler, Beth Orton, Fleet Foxes, Devendra Banhart and Pete Doherty.
Bert was included in Rolling Stone magazine's top 100 guitarists of all time, as well as winning countless awards and receiving an honorary Doctorate of Music from Napier University in his native Edinburgh.
